Das Volk strömt in bunt gemischten Massen zu dem allmonatlichen Bauchtanz-Beat-Event.

GAYHANE ist längst über die Grenzen der Stadt bekannt und findet bereits in vielen großen Städten Nachahmer. Seit Jahren begegnen sich LGBT*I und deren Freunde auf dem HomoOriental Dancefloor , den die DJ´s Ipek, mikki_p und Amr Hammer mit türkischer, arabischer aber auch griechischer und hebräischer Popmusik gestalten. In einer Mischung aus morgen- und abendländischen Klängen und Temperamenten entwickelt sich sehr schnell eine stimmungsvolle Party, deren Flair durch die phantasievolle Verwandlung des Veranstaltungsortes in ein orientalisches Festzelt untermalt wird.

Das tanzwütige Treiben erfährt um 1:00 Uhr durch Mitternachtsspitzen eine Unterbrechung. Bevor es eine Showdarbietung eines Special-Guest aus der Programmpallette von verschiedensten Künstler*innen gibt, gilt es zunächst ein wichtiges Anliegen des Abends den Gästen näher zu bringen: Nämlich nicht nur einen beschwingten Abend zu genießen, sondern auch gemeinsam mit unseren Gästen Solidarität mit den verschiedensten politischen und sozialen Projekten und Gruppen zu üben.

Dieser feste Bestandteil des Partykonzeptes von GAYHANE versteht sich als praktizierte Solidarität des Veranstaltungsteams, sowie des gesamten SO36 Kollektivs. Wenn dann nach der Show bei der Disco der Halay (Orientalischer Kreistanz) erklingt, tanzen Tunten, Heten, Lesben und irgendwie alle Arm in Arm, so dass die Stimmung nur so kocht und kocht….bis in den frühen Morgen…..

Seit über 21 Jahren ist das Café Fatal die herrlich uncoole Sonntagsparty im berühmten Punk/Rock-Schuppen SO36. Ob Berlins LGBTIQ*-Community, neugierige Touris oder die bunte Kreuzberger Nachbarschaft – wer sich hier nicht amüsiert, ist selbst schuld.

Jeder Fatal-Abend startet mit einem Tanzkurs – ganz klassisch, und doch ganz anders: Frischlinge und heimliche Travoltas, Singles und Paare, notorische Grobmotoriker*innen und Balletthasen, alle können hier Paartanz lernen unter Gleichgesinnten, ganz ohne Tanzschulen-Schick, ohne Verpflichtung, ohne Extra-Kosten. Einfach kommen, gucken und mitmachen.

Damit die frisch gelernten Schritte dann auch gleich in Fleisch und Blut übergehen, ertönt den ganzen Abend strikte Ballroom-Musik vom DJ-Pult. Und wer sich auch jenseits des Tanzparketts austoben will, findet in der Sportslounge schnell Mitspieler*innen für Tischtennis oder Kicker.Und weil man gehen soll wenn´s am schönsten ist, schließen wir gegen 23 Uhr und freuen uns auf auf den nächsten Sonntag.

Im Café Fatal feiert sich der Gast noch selbst, voller Freude und Begeisterung über eine Party, die ihren ganz besonderen unperfekten Charme hat. “Immer wieder Sonntags…”

Am 20. April 2018 erschien auf Glitterhouse Records das neue Die Nerven Album FAKE. „Mit Abstand hat uns kein Album so viel abverlangt wie dieses hier“, reflektiert die Band über ihr viertes Album und sagt, dass sie sich aufgrund des anstrengenden Entstehungsprozesses mehrere Male annähernd aufgelöst hätte. FAKE ist ein Monolith von Album, ein Statement, die Wucht und wurde von Fans wie Presse gleichermaßen gefeiert: „Ein Manifest gegen die Arriviertheit“ schrieb die Süddeutsche Zeitung, „Die Nerven stemmen sich mit ihrem bisher wirkmächtigsten Album gegen das „Fake“-Zeitalter“ urteilte Spiegel Online, „Drei solche Ichs machen Die Nerven zum besten (Post-)Punk-Trio im Lande und FAKE zu einer Platte, die klingt, als hätte jemand einen Sprengsatz in die ICH-MASCHINE geworfen“ so der Musikexpress, während die Intro sie aufs Cover nahm und urteilte: „Ihr könnt jetzt alle schon mal nach Hause gehen: Das beste deutsche Album des Jahres kommt von den Nerven.“ Nachdem FAKE auf Platz 13 (!) der Top 100 Albumcharts einstieg, kommen Die Nerven im Oktober und November erneut auf Tour um „ihren Titel als beste deutsche Liveband zu verteidigen“ (Visions Magazin).
Fast drei Jahre mit unzähligen Konzerten, einer Theaterarbeit und diversen Songwriting-Sessions lagen zwischen den Aufnahmen zu OUT und FAKE. Bereits während die Stücke geschrieben wurden, legten DIE NERVEN mehr Wert auf Vielfalt denn je, jeder der zwölf Songs funktioniert sowohl im Albumkontext, als auch für sich alleine. Zusammen mit Produzent Ralv Milberg und seinem mobilen Studio plus Equipment überquerten DIE NERVEN im September 2017 dann gleich zwei Mal die Alpen, um innerhalb von nur zwei Wochen ihr viertes Studioalbum in der Toskana aufzunehmen. Verteilt über 4 Räume wurde FAKE ausschließlich live aufgenommen, Overdubs und Percussion folgten in Leipzig, für den Gesang fanden sich DIE NERVEN wiederum in Stuttgart ein.

The Mad Caddies have always had a diverse set of influences. Since forming in Solvang, California back in 1995, the band has channeled their love of classic reggae, dub, ska, dancehall, two-tone, and punk into something that’s distinctly theirs. Over the past twenty years, the Mad Caddies have made music that slipped between genre lines, and with Punk Rocksteady, they offer a record of punk covers that shows the Mad Caddies are capable of taking all that piss and vinegar and turning it into something beautiful.

Recorded at San Francisco’s Motor Studios with Fat Mike serving as the record’s producer, as well as its spiritual guide, the Mad Caddies got to bring one of Mike’s pet projects to life. “This has been one of his dream projects for a long time,” says guitarist Sascha Lazor. “It’s been a party conversation. ‘Hey, you should do that.’” But after years of talk, the stars began to align. What followed was a two-month long process that saw the band, as well as Mike, collaborate on making a list of songs that were befitting of the Mad Caddies treatment.

“We had a grand vision that we needed to have four-to-six sounds on here,” says vocalist Chuck Robertson. “We needed to have traditional ska, super horn-heavy dancehall songs, reggae, SoCal stuff, and we needed to have something new and weird that we could make our own.” In order to make Punk Rocksteady diverse, the band labored over picking songs that could be interpreted in ways that would feel new and exciting, but still retained the spirit of the originals.

With Punk Rocksteady, the Mad Caddies effectively reframe the past 40 years of punk history into something that’s lighter but no less impactful. From pulling vintage soul music sounds out of The Misfits “Some Kind Of Hate,” or giving the Descendents deep cut “Jean Is Dead” a reggae strut, some of punk’s genre-defining bands are remade at the hands of the Mad Caddies. “If the song’s good, it can be played in any genre and do the song justice,” says Robertson, and it’s true listening to Punk Rocksteady, as the band’s approach shows the limitless potential of the source material, turning Against Me!’s “Sink, Florida, Sink” into a horn-laced joyride and giving the staunch ska-haters Propagandhi a send-up that even they couldn’t deny.

“We wanted this to be a cohesive album that, even if you’re not a fan of punk, you could throw on and enjoy,” says Robertson. And for punks that are dubious of reggae, it gives them a new view of the songwriting chops of some of their favorite bands. With both the Mad Caddies and Fat Mike in a room, the material for Punk Rocksteady had a really high bar to clear, and the band put in the work to ensure it did. “It’s really hard to take a Bad Religion song and make it a reggae song and have it sound good,” says Lazor. “There’s so much movement in the chords, and that doesn’t work for reggae.” But the result was finding a way to translate Bad Religion’s “Sorrow” into something that retained the song’s powerful arch with it sounding like something you’ve never heard before.

A byproduct of reworking all these songs to fit the Mad Caddies’ style was that the band finished the record inspired to look at their own songwriting with the same critical eye. “We don’t like to learn covers or play covers, but we picked these songs that we thought were really good,” says Lazor. “It really gave us a fresh perspective on writing songs.” It’s something that permeates Punk Rocksteady and reminds that, in the world of the Mad Caddies, the best thing to expect is the unexpected.

Buster Shuffle have enjoyed a hugely successful couple of years. Sold-out gigs with Madness and Chas ‘n’ Dave was a fitting way to follow their own sold-out shows in Berlin, Vienna, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Munich, Bochum and Hamburg – as well a number of high profile festival slots in Germany (with Lee Scratch Perry), Czechoslovakia (with Frank Turner) and some massive arena shows in Italy with The Dropkick Murphys. In the UK support slots with the likes of The Rifles, The Blockheads, The Wombats and Shed Seven and Dandy Livingstone has seen the band’s reputation enhanced even more.  Buster Shuffle’s remarkable year was capped by the success of the album ‘Do Nothing’ which continues to regularly chart on the Amazon Europe’s bestseller list. Radio play from BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music as well as XFM where front man Jet was a regular on Danny Wallace’s breakfast show.

Music is supposed to be about having fun and it’s practically impossible not to have a good time when listening to Buster Shuffle. The secret lies in the inspired song craft and arrangement skills of creative driving force, Jet Baker, who effortlessly fuses Cockney ska/pop with an authentic rock and roll sound and lyrics that are guaranteed to make you laugh. As British as fish and chips, its mischievous piano-bashing boogie, with songs about drunken arguments, crafty cats, anti-social night buses, dirty older women and messy divorces. Uncut magazine gave debut album, ‘Our Night Out’, four out of five stars, citing Buster Shuffle as ‘one to watch’, and the band have won a number of high-profile fans including BBC radio giant, Steve Lamacq and Pixies legend, Frank Black. Buster Shuffle’s line-up comprises the virtuoso, creative behemoth that is Jet Baker on piano and lead vocals, the best rhythm section you could hope to find in the shape of Terry Mascall and on drums and Dave Gravy on bass, with James Stickley, giving heart and soul on guitar.

Zuletzt war die Noise-Rock-Institution HEALTH im Jahr 2015 auf Tour in Deutschland und hat unter anderem das Berghain in Berlin komplett ausverkauft. Ende Februar 2019 kommt die Band zurück. Zuvor sind sie mit The Neighbourhood auf Welttournee.

HEALTH haben sich 2006 in Los Angeles gegründet und veröffentlichten bereits 2007 ihr selbstbetiteltes und in Eigenregie aufgenommenes Debütalbum. Es folgten mediales Lob aus allen Ecken, Compilation- Projekte bei denen sie als Kuratoren von diversen Künstlern und Produzenten fungierten, um deren Songs zu remixen und über zwei Alben verteilt zu veröffentlichen sowie die nächsten Studioalben „Get Colour“ (2009) und „Death Magic“ (2015).

HEALTH haben ausverkaufte Shows und Festivals auf der ganzen Welt gespielt, von Coachella bis Primavera, tourten mit Nine Inch Nails, Gary Numan und Interpol. Sie paaren experimentellen Noise-Rock mit dem verhallten, hochgepitchten Gesang von Benjamin Jared Miller. Sound gegen Song wird so zu einem ständigen Kampf von David gegen Goliath, den man sich unbedingt live ansehen sollte.

Produziert vom preisgekrönten Regisseur Matthew Cullen (London Fields, Pacific Rim u.a.) und gemastert von Howie Weinberg (BEASTIE BOYS, NIRVANA, THE RAMONES)

Es ist fast zehn Jahre her, seit THE LEMONHEADS mit ihrem neunten Studioalbum einen längeren Stop einlegten – einem lebhaften, von den Medien und Fans gut aufgenommenem Cover-Album, welches unwahrscheinlich anmutende Kollaborationen hervorbrachte – so war Gibby Haynes Produzent und Kate Moss hatte einen Cameo-Auftritt als Sängerin.

„Gram Parsons, Wire, and GG Allin: You’d be hard pressed to find three more disparate rock acts, yet on ‘Varshons’ they all sound like the Lemonheads – boppy, overcast alt-rock delivered at a fast clip and sung in a whiskey tenor”, behauptete damals Pitchfork.

Aber auch hier bewies LEMONHEADS-Mastermind, EVAN DANDO, dass er über seltsame Fähigkeiten verfügt: „He could sing his order for a takeaway over the phone and make it into an achy three-minute epic fit for any bar.“

Auch damals zog DANDOs vokaler Twang die nervösen Extreme von „Varshons“ in eine scheinbar zufällige Auswahl wie aus einer alten Hokey-Jukebox und „Varshons 2“, das Nachfolge-Album der Band, wiederholt die Formel mit EVANs emotionaler, langsam reifenden Stimme. Er ist wahrhaftig einer der großen ausdrucksstarken Sänger geworden.

So wie auch HANK WILLIAMS zwischen seinen Auftritten in seinem Auto zusammenbrach, schrammelnd und schreiend, nachdenklich und wimmernd und immer weiter summend, macht EVAN die fremden Melodien zu seinen eigenen. Dabei kündigt er auf „Varshons 2“ die Ankunft wahrer Helden an: NICK CAVE und THE BEVIS FROND, YO LA TENGO, LUCINDA WILLIAMS und PAUL WESTERBERG. Es sind Geschichten, die man mehrfach erzählen kann, so zum Beispiel über JOHN PRINEs endlosen Highway auf „Speed Of The Sound Of Loneliness“ oder über die rührselige Schönheit des JAYHAWKS Songs „Settled Down Like Rain“.

Während es wie an der Schnur gezogen immer weitergeht, stösst das Radio hinzu und THE LEMONHEADS enthüllen das rauhe „TAQN“ von THE EYES, bevor er in die echoartige Nuance von THE GIVEGOODS‘ wunderschönem „Unfamiliar“ absteigt – eine Melodie, die DANDO mit dem ehemaligen SMUDGE-Mitglied Tom Morgan geschrieben hat, eine Art Antrieb durch Drogenverwirrung, die wie ein Kerouac Om klingt.

Der NME berichtete über „V1“, dass die LEMONHEADS „no strangers to a cover“ seien und kam zu dem Schluss, dass „the grunge-pop heroes perfect the art“. Auf „Varshons 2“ nehmen sie eine Weggabelung, die sie tiefer in den Wald führt, wobei DANDO kummervolle Kinderreime aus dunklen Tagen singt und THE EAGLES‘ „Take It Easy“ in ein Straßenmärchen verwandelt, um sie alle zu beenden… „It’s a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford, Slowin‘ down to take a look at me…”. Crack a fifth of gin.
