Mclusky, a ragged Welsh trio indebted to both punk and indie rock, first showed up on thescene in 1998. Led by Andrew Falkous (vocals/guitar), the band also originally includedMatthew Harding (drums) and Jonathan Chapple (bass). Mclusky debuted on wax in theU.K. with 2000's My Pain and Sadness Is More Sad and Painful Than Yours (Fuzzbox). They next signed with Too Pure and hooked up with Steve Albini to produce theirsophomore effort. The holdover singles Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues and To Hell withGood Intentions were issued before the Mclusky Do Dallas full-length dropped from TooPure in April 2002. The album was roundly hailed as a great leap forward from thecharming yet nevertheless amateurish My Pain, and made quite a few year-end best-oflists on both sides of the Atlantic. Mclusky made the festival rounds in the U.K. thatsummer and continued to work on their third full-length. The Difference Between Me andYou Is That I'm Not on Fire arrived in 2004, but by the following year the band decided tocall it a day. An expanded version of the collection Mcluskyism was released early in 2006.Falkous and Egglestone later joined with members of fellow Welsh band Jarcrew to formFuture of the Left.Mclusky started to reunite from 2015, with Damien Sayell on bass and vocals (first asMclusky*, then back to the original name). In September 2023, the band released a four-track EP – their first new music in 19 years – entitledunpopular parts of a pig. Its titletrack, as well as the second track "the digger you deep", are said to be lifted from theband's fourth studio album.
