Tickets – THE STRING ARCHESTRA GOES POP! Berlin
Informationen
The String Archestra was founded in 2016 by the scholar and dramaturge Dr. Dr. Daniele G. Daude to promote the work of Black, Indigenous, and Composers of Color, who have been erased from concert repertories and canonical classical music history. In 2021, the String Archestra won the TONALi Award in the category “Umbruch” and performed at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. The String Archestra collaborates with a wide range of composers such as Ayanna Witter-Johnson, Anthony R. Green, Jessie Montgomery, MARIAMA, Shannon Sea, Shelly Phillips, Craig Harris, Philo Tsoungui. Today the ensemble plays with a new generation of German Singer-Songswriters Neneh Boye, King Josephine, Julie Mbodjé and Diana Ezerex.
Neneh Boye
Neneh Boye is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Berlin. In her music, she weaves personal experiences, memories and very intimate moments into musical stories that resonate. Influences from soul, hip-hop and pop result in a mixture that reflects her versatility and emotional depth – both powerful and fragile. Her debut single ‘Boye’ was released in January 2024 on the Berlin label Blackords.
King Josephine
King Josephine, is an independent, autodidact composer, multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter originally from Amsterdam. Now based in Berlin since 2009. Drawing inspiration from her roots and diverse experiences, her music seamlessly blends genres like Pop, Blues, Soul, R&B, and Hip-Hop. Collaborating with drummer and co-producer Giancarlo Mura, King Josephine is on the cusp of sharing her debut EP “Note to Self” : A neo-soul expedition coupled with robust drumbeats, which reflects on her decade-long journey, tackling topics like racial identity, mental health, self love and loss.
Julie Mbodjé
Julienne Mbodjé is a classical mezzo-soprano and singer-songwriter based in Berlin. She studied opera singing in Freiburg, Barcelona and Berlin and is especially passionate about classical Lied and baroque opera. Over the last few years she was a former member in the local broadcaster RBB chamber choir RIAS Kammerchor, performed in various concerts as soloist and sung in numerous opera productions, including the main role in „Carmen“ by George Bizet. Alongside Julie is also an accomplished singer-songwriter. For the last 10 years she has been writing and performing her own songs with Piano and Guitar. This year Julie is focused on releasing her first original single „Sprich mal Afrikanisch“.
Diana Ezerex
Born into a musical family in Germany, Diana Ezerex began singing and playing instruments at three. She took lessons in recorder and saxophone, taught herself piano, guitar, and songwriting, and wrote her first song at nine. Though she never saw music as a career, she kept honing her craft. While earning degrees in Educational Sciences, Cultural Mediation, and Popular Music, she gained opportunities to share her music. Touring solo in 2016/17, she formed a band and refined her sound after completing the Popkurs in Hamburg. Her crowdfunded debut album explored incarceration, inspired by her prison concerts since 2017. Her recent work delves into identity, belonging, and racism. Her voice and songwriting earned her praise at JazzOpen, Das FEST, and collaborations with Cassandra Steen and Reyas. Crossover projects with diverse ensembles and musical groups (string ensembles, big bands etc.) reflect her versatility. With national grants and media features in Rolling Stone, ZEIT & ZDF, she bridges pop and social impact.
